Can't Stop. Won't Stop.

Officially half a century old, Frameline50 marked the return to The Castro Theatre with a trio of San Francisco-made productions — all three recipients of a Frameline Completion Fund grant this year — occupying the Opening Night, Centerpiece, and Pride Kick-Off slots. The Festival opened with D’Arcy Drollinger’s hilarious drag spoof Lady Champagne, with writer/director/star Drollinger in attendance alongside drag royalty Alaska Thunderfuck, Jackie Beat, Matthew Martin, Steven LeMay, Meatball, and Nancy French. For the Teddy Award-winning Centerpiece title Barbara Forever, an in-depth tribute to the late filmmaker Barbara Hammer, director Brydie O’Connor arrived with Hammer’s partner of over 30 years, Florrie Burke. And for the Pride Kick-Off screening of Hunky Jesus, director Jennifer M. Kroot brought an army of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence onto The Castro Theatre stage.

Lilly Wachowski was present for a very special 30th anniversary screening of Bound at The Castro, before being a part of Industry Day’s Keynote Conversation with Allegra Madsen. On the final day of the Festival (Pink Saturday), the day began with a conversation with Colman Domingo and Variety's Jazz Tangcay, where Domingo received the Variety Creative Conscience Award. And it ended with the fresh-from-Cannes queer horror film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, where director Jane Schoenbrun was given the Frameline Queer Lens Award for Filmmaking with the film’s star Hannah Einbinder also present at the Closing Night screening.

Other notable guests included Gregg Araki, John Early, Louise Weard, Hayley Kiyoko, Alice Maio Mackay, Dan Bucatinsky, Rob Epstein, Avalon Fast, Carole Pope, Vera Drew, Jennie Livingston, Lucio Castro, Jeffrey Schwarz, Matthew Risch, Frances Reid, Gustavo Vinagre, Aarin Burch, Allan Deberton, Adrian Chiarella, Joe Bird, Ryan A. White, Brock Yurich, Luke Prokop, Sam McConnell, Dylan Holloway, Richard Bernstein (aka Mickey Squires), Allison Berg, and Donna Deitch.
