Muriel’s Parents Have Had It Up to Here

Directed by Philippe Faucon1995France74 mins

Muriel tells her mother that she "prefers girls to boys." Mother is aghast and father remains aloof. Thankfully, there's much more to this story than the despair, or lack thereof, of Muriel's parents. In fact, this is a story about a shy young woman coming to terms with her identity.

Muriel has left the nest to study in Paris where she falls under the spell of Nora — a sexy and saucy young girl who revels in her seductive powers. Sensing Muriel's burgeoning crush, Nora flirts shamelessly, all the while reminding shy and cautious Muriel that her romantic gestures are "just for fun." Nora's idea of fun takes an interesting twist during a vacation to the seaside where she engages in heavy petting and skinny dipping with mutual friend Fred as Muriel stands by, but Muriel doesn't give up.

Before delving into Muriel's angst-ridden life, catch the sneak preview of Jennie Livingston's (Paris Is Burning) first dramatic feature, Who's the Top?
