Pump Up the Volume

Touching a number of different musical genres including punk, metal, folk, New Wave, trap, and even showtunes, these films highlight musical entities real and fictitious and travel through time to imagine Norma Desmond on the Broadway stage, remember Boy George working the door at the hottest London club, orchestrate a visual album re-imagining the story of The Ark in space, and showcase the contemporary talents of Courtney Barnett and an all-women rock band from Lebanon called Slave to Sirens.

Be sure not to miss a West Side Story-by-way-of-Kenneth Anger almost-musical co-starring Demi Moore and a hypnotic tour of the forests of Argentina where one of the greatest directors working today, Lucrecia Martel, follows a collection of women and trans musical artists as they perform for one another during lockdown (which screens in the Wild Combination shorts program).
