Labrador — Autopsy of Silence

Directed by Rodrigue Jean2026Canada121 mins

A murder at sea unravels in reverse in this tense, atmospheric thriller set aboard a cargo ship. When Alex (Alexandre Landry, also seen in We’ll Find Happiness at Frameline50), the ship’s cook, is found dead, suspicion falls on Alupa Tulugak (Christopher Angatookalook), an Inuit mechanic navigating a world shaped by hierarchy, isolation, and unspoken desires. As the investigation peels backward through time — moving from a storm-lashed night at sea when the murder occurred to an Inuit community in Northern Canada where Alupa goes to find refuge — conflicting testimonies from crewmates, including Michelle (Gabrielle Poulin B.), a commanding officer, and Shakir, a close friend, blur the line between truth and perception.

Under mounting pressure, Alupa must decide whether to reveal the nature of his relationship with Alex and confront the forces aligned against him. Visually striking and emotionally charged, the new film from the always provocative Canadian auteur Rodrigue Jean (Full Blast, Frameline24; Love in the Time of Civil War) weaves a gripping mystery with a powerful exploration of race, class, and sexuality, set against the stark beauty and quiet tension of the Arctic North.
