She's the He is first-time director Siobhan McCarthy's much-needed fresh take on dated gender-swap comedies, a timely commentary on the urgent need for trans acceptance and joy. McCarthy has assembled a talented cast and crew of trans, nonbinary, and queer people that gives She's the He a vital authenticity and heart, while never skimping on the over-the-top humor we've come to expect from the genre.
One week before their high school graduation, best friends Alex and Ethan concoct a plan to finally dispel the rumors that they're gay: by coming out as trans women. With newfound access to the girl's locker room, randy prankster Alex schemes to get closer to his crush Sasha and his goal of losing his virginity before college. But when wallflower Ethan attends a girls' sleepover she realizes that what started as a joke might actually be the truth. When Alex and Ethan's plan is exposed, they're forced to deal with the subsequent ramifications and their splintering friendship.
