Starring Erin Daniels of The L Word and adapted from Patricia Cotter’s play The Surrogate, Beautiful Dreamer is a charming, light-hearted dramedy about family, friendship, and love within a tight-knit group of fortysomethings, shot in and around the Bay Area. Plagued with a case of writer’s block, Margaret (Daniels) is desperately trying to finish her second novel, but her long-time partner Jen (Kathryn Smith-McGlynn, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials) just wants to start planning their wedding.
Meanwhile, her best friend Billy (Louis Ozawa Changchien from Amazon Prime’s Hunters) wants the couple to be godparents to his young daughter Tallulah and soon-to-born (through a surrogate) son. Billy’s wife Sarah (Jennifer Mudge, The Irishman), however, is frantically trying to keep her meddling mother Rita (a scene-stealing Wendie Malick) from finding out that she used the kitchen remodel money she gave them to pay for the surrogacy. Toss into the mix, the angelic surrogate Crystal (newcomer Tate Moore), who just wants to have the baby so she can get back to her true love in life: surfing.
