Jamie and Jessie are Not Together

Directed by Wendy Jo Carlton2011USA89 mins

Grab your hipster bike, warm up your vocal cords, and admit you have a crush on your roommate with this cool musical. Jamie is moving from Chicago to New York (Brooklyn, of course) to become a Broadway actress. Her best friend and roommate, Jessica, is bummed, because she’s in love with Jamie.

Jamie just doesn’t get it. She thinks the biggest problem with moving is who’s going to pay the bills if she goes early. If only it were that easy. As moving day gets closer, Jessie tries to make Jamie jealous by dating other women. ‘Cause that always works. But as the pair struggles with the grey area between lust and love, Jessie’s plan backfires, in a way she could never imagine.

Two cute leads bounce off each other (and various dates and lovers) with easy intimacy, and the off-beat original songs complement this film’s funky, made-with-love vibe. Quirky local flair, a Greek chorus of bearded bears, and a cool soundtrack reveal this to be a love letter both to Chicago and “will they or won’t they?” friendships.
