Bonding, bending and transforming are all celebrated in the following shorts and documentaries. A Thorn in Your Side is a gender-bending view of the world from the San Francisco Trans March, and Transforming Health-care reveals the discrimination many transgender people face in healthcare settings. The Bond explores the connection between a parent and his transgender child. The Role I Was Born to Play uses clips from three gender-bender films to touch upon assumptions of gender expression. A lonely cop and a lonely sex worker connect on a street corner in Donny & Ginger. Set in the agrarian future, Unca Trans is a short, animated, Super-8 film about gender theory and activism. Bend It is an homage to the living sculpture art of Gilbert and George. Two of San Francisco’s most loved trans women are featured in: Felicia, a short examination of Felicia Elizondo’s life as a single senior living on a fixed income, and Forever’s Gonna Start Tonight, a portrait of Vicki Marlane, the oldest living, continuously performing, transgender drag performer. Lastly, a sneak preview of Maggots and Men, an experimental, historical narrative set in post-revolutionary Russia with a subtext of gender anarchy.
