You’ll find suburban housewives, hot dogs, speed freaks and hot dates in this exciting collection of shorts from local filmmakers that will bring out the homo in all of us.
In The Perfect Ones, Bay Area alum Nao Bustamante plays an amnesia-stricken suburban housewife who wanders into an underground punk club and discovers a new way of life. Michelle Tea is the heroine in Dream of an ex-girlfriend, a madcap fantasy-turnedreality in which her dreamland adventure is both comedic and deadly. Plastic Fantastic #1 is a stop-motion animation that asks the age-old question, “Do hot dogs dream?” Johnny Mann discovers the miracle of masturbation and contemplates the sorrow of spilling one’s seed in Come Cry with Me. Hard Hat Required takes the phrase “under construction” to a whole new level. In Hot Date, Charity is on the verge of scoring with a date who’s allergic to dogs and hates “players” and religious zealots. A lurid look at today’s sock-it-to-me set, the men of Mondo Bottomless are all tops! Homotopia offers an anti-colonial take on queer struggle. Lynn Breedlove’s Godspeed is a universal tale of love, addiction and redemption in San Francisco in the cool, punk late ’80s, when every club on Valencia blasted a local band, everyone wore black, bike messengers were the new pony express, and strippers were their saloon girls.
