_Night Corridor _is an expressionistic Hong Kong horror film with a devilish queer twist. In the film, produced by Frameline Award winner Stanley Kwan, Sam is a Chinese photographer living in London. On the eve of his gallery debut, he receives a frantic call from Hong Kong that his twin brother is dead, luring Sam to descend again into the hell he once escaped.
Back home, Sam's mother, a boozy and faded night club singer, has married a brute, and secrets swirl around the circumstances of his brother's death. When Sam finds out that his mother is conspiring with Father Chan, the Catholic priest who had his way with both Sam and his brother, he sets out to find the truth.
Enter Mr. Luk, the kindly night watchman at the library, who welcomes Sam and helps him discover that his brother was inexplicably torn to pieces by wild mon keys. As the mystery deepens, Sam discovers that Father Chan is being blackmailed by Vincent, a radio star that Sam has lusted after for years, and that Vincent may in fact be the devil. As things become much worse, Sam begins to question his own sanity. Is Sam just a guy gone crazy because of his repressed homosexuality, or could there truly be an ancient evil controlling his life?
With a dose of David Lynch — even a missing ear! — and a lot of Catholic guilt, Night Corridor is a nightmarish thriller for queer fans of Hong King cinema.
