Set in the gritty streets of Paris and the beautiful country side of northern France, Wild Side (winner of the 2004 Teddy Award for Best Feature Film at this year's Berlin International Film Festival) traces the sexual history and life of Stéphanie (Stéphanie Michelini), a transsexual prostitute caught in a love triangle with two men. When Stéphanie learns that her mother is dying, she returns to her rural childhood home. She is accompanied by her lovers Mikhail (Edouard Nikitine) and Djamel (Yasmine Belmadi), both sex workers; an unbreakable bond of love and companionship unites the threesome. Returned to the place of her origins, Stéphanie is haunted by memories of a long-forgotten past — distant childhood loves, recollections of her beloved late sister, and the truth of who she once was, a young boy named Pierre.
Inspired by Lou Reed's underground classic, "Take a Walk on the Wild Side," Wild Side is a visually stunning film shot by famed cinematographer, Agnès Godard (Beau travail; The Dreamlife of Angels) and directed by Sébastien Lifshitz (Come Undone). By exploring both the landscape and the human body to evoke the characters' shifting relationships with themselves and each other, Wild Side offers an intensely erotic portrait of love and family.
