> Youth in Motion: High School DVD Project
Frameline and the Gay-Straight Alliance Network are excited to announce Youth in Motion, a new program that will provide free high-quality LGBTQ media to high schools throughout California! Starting this fall, we’ll distribute films to GSAs that are taking a leadership role in reforming their school’s curriculum and reducing homophobia and transphobia in their hallways.
For many LGBTQ teenagers, their feelings can seem shameful, their identities invisible, and their schools unsafe. Many lack access to LGBTQ communities and positive representations of queer lives. Realistic representations of diverse LGBTQ people and topics are crucial tools for empowering and energizing youth.
Based on the model of Frameline’s successful Send It Home project in 1998, we’re asking our membership, festival audiences, and other concerned individuals to support youth by donating films to GSAs. This fall, we’ll be launching a new website where you’ll be able to select a school (your own alma mater, your niece’s high school, etc.), or let us match with a school that needs your help. The films will be sent with study and action guides to help schools get the most out of the media, including information on how to use the films to meet state-approved curricular standards.
