Nousha (Tara Grammy) is pretty convinced she’ll never find the right man, especially one that will satisfy her mother’s deepest desires of her settling down with a nice Persian husband. But when she meets artsy queer activist and proud bisexual Alex (Christopher O’Shea, Alaska Is a Drag, Frameline41) at a protest rally, the sparks fly, and she’s swept away by the magic of unexpected new love.
Despite their best intentions to fend off traditional marriage, the couple finds themselves caught up in Nousha’s family’s expectations and on the fast track to forever, but whose dreams are they playing out? Simple Wedding is a heartfelt and hilarious rom-com with a stellar ensemble cast of characters, all looking for love and finding it where they least expect it. It’s also a charming look at the Iranian American experience and the joys and woes of modern love. Shohreh Aghdashloo (House of Sand and Fog) and Rita Wilson (The Good Wife) offer winning support as the conflicted mothers of the unconventional couple.
