Filthy Gorgeous: The Trannyshack Story

The third season of Frameline at the Center continues with an infamous audience favorite from Frameline29 Filthy Gorgeous: The Trannyshack Story.

What’s there to do in San Francisco on a Tuesday night? For many years now, the only appropriate answer to this query has been: “Trannyshack!” Heklina, always flawless and always fierce, heads up the club known for its comedic, dramatic, sometimes glamorous, usually trashy, and always entertaining floorshows. As Heklina quips, “Trannyshack is all about...not taking yourself too seriously.”

Filthy Gorgeous offers up many awesome performances ranging from the stunningly arty to the sweetly sublime, from the disturbingly raunchy to the shockingly sexy. Rounding out the movie, so it isn’t just a greatest hits montage, director Sean Mullens and producer Deena Davenport have included insightful and often poignant interviews with some of Trannyshack’s finest. They bare all in telling their stories, including their inspirations, hardships, and rewards; we even hear about Pippi Lovestocking’s rough trade sexual exploits. Hysterical footage of the annual Drag Race is guaranteed to make you laugh as you wonder, “How do they do that in those heels?” And going along on the bus ride to Trannyshack Reno is indeed a trip to remember.

Whether you are a seasoned Trannyshack veteran or have never seen a drag queen in your life (is that possible?), Filthy Gorgeous is sure to open your eyes to the magic of one of San Francisco’s most popular clubs, and to remind you not to take yourself too seriously.
