The Raging Grannies Action League of the San Francisco Bay Peninsula may be comprised of women ages 50 through 90. But these aren’t your average little old ladies.
Through satirical songs, humorous skits, colorful costumes and whimsical hats, the grannies employ a unique blend of activism and street theater to grab the attention of the public and the media, as well as the suspicion of the California National Guard, comprising a dynamic grassroots activist organization. Speaking out for various progressive causes, from environmental issues to gay rights, these women ensure a better future by imparting their wisdom and experience on the next generation of activists. Eschewing the stereotype of older women while playfully embracing it, their message may be serious, but their non-violent approach is a riot.
