Curated by Madeleine Lim, these works were created through Queer Women of Color Media Arts Project, which promotes the visibility of queer women of color through the creation, exhibition and distribution of films that reflect our life stories. Fashion Resistance to Militarism examines the military’s influence on fashion and popular culture. The spirit of the Haitian Voudoun goddess of love saturates the haunting Erzulie’s Tears. Mysterious messages from a spiritual ancestor wash over a queer Filipina in Pagsalig/ Faith. The love affair between two Chinese lesbians permeates Infinite Breath with their desire. A Filipina leaves everything she knows in to transgress: a meditation. A queer Latina paints a loving portrait of her grandmother in Las Mañanitas. Women heal from internalized sexism in That’s Why I Hate Females. The legacy of racism in higher education suffuses the lives of early Black educators in 60 Years of the Same. In the darkly humorous The Saint, a picture of a Mammy is more than just black and white. In the animated Flower Fokes, colorful characters blend gender and sexuality in a topical family bouquet. Shades of meaning challenge a young Black lesbian from the suburbs in the laugh-out-loud Slang It Like You Own It.
