Stud Life
JJ, a black lesbian stud with mad swagger and stone butch tendencies, and her best friend Seb, a cute white twink with a penchant for brightly colored nail polish, do everything together. When JJ meets a beautiful femme named Elle at the local pub, Seb warns her that the seductress is trouble,to no avail: JJ is determined to have her, whether she’s seeing someone else or not.
Here's what Alex has to say about the film:
Stud Life is a must see film by director, Campbell X. Rarely have I seen the masculine of center (MOC) experience so accurately and eloquently depicted on screen, complete with so many levels of complexity. This film struck a deep cord for me. From managing “wrong bathroom” scenarios, to navigating difficult conversations around body and gender, this film does not hold back. And while not typically a fan of a love story plot line, Stud Life proved to be an exception. The interactions between the main characters are raw and passionate. This film stuck with me for days after seeing it, and because of this I cannot give Stud Life a higher recommendation.
Stud Life screens Sunday, June 17, 7:00 PM at the Castro Theatre and Monday, June 18, 9:30 PM at the Rialto Cinemas™ Elmwood
