Interview with Erika Randall Beahm, co-director of Leading Ladies (SheWired): Leading Ladies screened at Frameline35 this past June. Read director Erika Randall Beahm's interview with SheWired, in which she discusses the thrills of the film festival circuit and mentions the joy of screening at the beautiful Castro Theatre!
10 Great LGBT Military Movies (The Advocate): The Advocate writes, "In honor of the 'don’t ask, don’t tell' repeal, we wanted to mention military flicks that are actually relevant to a queer or trans audience. But leaving out documentaries (like the brilliant Paragraph 175) and some great films like Aimee & Jaguar and November Moon — all of which tackle the Nazi war era but from a primarily civilian perspective — it’s clear that movies about LGBT soldiers are still in their infancy.
Perhaps in the next decade we’ll see our community serving openly in a flourish of diverse military films (like A Few Good Men, Universal Soldier, Avatar, all of which we could argue for inclusion on this list but none that have openly LGBT characters)."
Andrew Haigh's 'Weekend' -- Gay, but that's Beside the Point (Los Angeles Times): This Frameline35 Volunteer of the Year Award winner is primarily about relationships and commitment, not to be overlooked as simply a "gay movie." For folks who missed it during Frameline35, Andrew Haigh's film opens in San Francisco on October 7th!
The LA Times writes, "As much as Weekend is shot through with the gay experience, its larger ideas — the difficulties of finding one's place in the world, the awkwardness of meeting and becoming comfortable with a partner — help transform the film into a more universal romance. 'That's what's important for me about the film,' Haigh said, 'it's about something more than just being gay.'"
