Frameline Voices: Educate Your Attitude

September 21, 2011
If the world ever needed a sexual manifesto, we wouldn’t mind if it looked a lot like Educate Your Attitude. We’d definitely embrace the early nineties opening music and animation but only if it was accompanied by the same sort of candid discussion of sex and sexuality. Part of a Canadian series, Educate Your Attitude does an interesting job of dropping in disparaging quotes the show has received as an illustration of an anti-sex, homophobic society. Here’s a gem from the Waterloo Board of Education in Ontario in the segment titled “Homophobia”: “Honest, frank, & informative. No recommendation – due to interviews with lesbians.” A couple of organizations that work with youth have put out sexual/dating bills of rights that are good reminders of the power everyone should have in their relationships. Here are two we really like: And in our communities, it’s especially important to remember that it’s not just youth who are having same-sex sex for the first time – people come out at all points in their lives. Here’s hoping that filmmakers continue to make frank, honest films to keep the conversation going.
