Celebrating the Life of Del Martin

June 20, 2011
Frameline is thrilled to partner with guest bloggers from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire during this year's festival! We've invited students from the LGBTQA Studies: San Francisco Travel Seminar at UWEC to share their experiences of Frameline and their thoughts on San Francisco's queer community. As they attend Frameline and experience San Francisco, they will be creating LGBTQ-themed documentaries, as well as vetting films for their second Eau Queer Film Festival in the fall. For more information about the contributors to this blog, click here: http://blog.frameline.org/2011/06/biography "I started off my second day by seeing a wonderful movie about an ordinary woman who did extraordinary things. Going into this film, I had some previous information about the women who changed it all, but I did not exactly know the legacy she left. I wanted to take a closer look at whom Del really was, and I came away from the film with much more than I anticipated. For those that have or have not seen this film, I can say that it was something truly touching and a film that I will remember for the rest of my life. Knowing that someone great worked for my rights and my freedoms passed, yet getting to sit right next to Phyllis Lyon (Del’s partner) on the movie screen was an amazing experience that everyone should feel. It has completely changed my perspective in the way that I should live my life, and the way that I should show my activism." - Bryton Fredrick "Not being a San Francisco resident myself I wasn’t as close to this film as many other audience members were, but I found it to be an absolute gem. Knowing very little about what Del accomplished prior to this viewing opened my eyes to just how amazing she was and so I found this film to be incredibly moving and a truly wonderful experience. After the viewing and Q & A, Bryton and I stayed behind in the theater to attempt to be able to talk with Phyllis, Del’s partner, which we were able to. And we were even able to get a photo with her! Just being able to thank her for what she and Del had accomplished was wonderful." - Tatjana Trommershauser *PHOTO OF BRYTON, TATJANA AND PHYLLIS*
