This past Saturday, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) held the third part of their annual GLAAD Media Awards here in San Francisco. Previous awards ceremonies were held in Los Angeles and New York, where the organization honored figures such as Ricky Martin, "30 Rock," "Modern Family," Kristin Chenoweth, and more.
Kim Cattrall received the Golden Gate Award for her outspoken support of the LGBT community through her iconic character, Samantha Jones, on HBO's "Sex and the City." In her acceptance speech, Cattrall said, "Gays and lesbians have been my friends and supporters since the beginning of my career, and it has been an honor to stand up and give them my fullest support, both on-screen and off. …It is so meaningful to be here accepting this tribute from an organization that does such important work."
AT&T, the Grand Sponsor of Frameline35, the San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival, was honored with the Corporate Leader Award for their commitment to equality. AT&T's inclusive policies include family and medical leave, healthcare benefits, and retirement plans for LGBTQ employees and their partners. President of AT&T California, Ken McNeely, accepted the award on the company's behalf.
