In a hate crime that defined the late-90s and sparked interest in hate crime legislation at state and federal levels, Matthew Shepard was tortured and murdered in Laramie, Wyoming in October 1998. Now over 12 years later, Michele Josue, a friend of the late Matthew Shepard, is planning a feature-length documentary to honor him and shed new light on the murder and to tell the story of Matthew Shepard that the headlines failed to tell.
She has launched a Kickstarter project to fund the documentary, which, at the time of this writing, is already over $30,000 towards its goal of $50,000. Filming is complete and the documentary is currently seeking funds for post-production.
