"We Were Here" to be distributed nationwide (SF Weekly): Frameline34 favorite "We Were Here," directed by local filmmaker David Weissman, has been picked up by Red Flag Releasing. SF Weekly writes, "The film's release will include theaters, DVD, on-demand, digital download, and eventually television, according to a news release from Red Flag and its partners in the effort, the Film Collaborative, New Video, and PBS' Independent Lens." The powerful documentary about the emergence of AIDS in San Francisco screened last June at the Castro Theatre during Frameline34 and brought the sold-out audience to tears. View the trailer below.
Kentucky student to host the state's first queer film festival (The Northerner): Austin Lee Brown, a student at Northern Kentucky University, has organized Kentucky's first international queer film festival. The Out Film Festival will take place on June 4, 2011, in a region that has recently witnessed an unfortunate string of anti-gay violence. We applaud your pride and bravery, Austin!
Mun2 airs series featuring lesbian relationship (GLAAD Blog): Mun2, the youth-oriented television channel and subdivision of Telemundo, recently began airing a telenovela featuring a lesbian relationship. "Los Aparicio" is about a well-off family living in Mexico City featuring a subplot with a same-sex relationship. GLAAD reports that the series is Spanish-language with English subtitles, so it appeals to both Spanish and English speakers.
