Member Spotlight: Catherine Brannigan

March 30, 2011
Catherine BranniganThere are some pretty amazing people that make up our big queer Frameline family, and we want to shine a spotlight on those folks that keep Frameline running day-in and day-out.  So, we're introducing a new Member Spotlight to our blog and E-News -- look for interviews with really cool people every other week. How long have you been a Frameline member? I have been a Frameline attendee 22 yrs, member 15 yrs, general volunteer 12 yrs, and screening committee volunteer 8 yrs. What do you look forward to in the Festival and what keeps you coming back? I look forward to all the inventive shorts, the heart tugging dramas and the over the top comedies.  In the spring, I am revving up for the festival screening movies every week with my group who over the years have become very close friends. During the festival I reconnect with people who I only see once a year fro our shared love of LGBT films. What's the most fun / craziest / life-changing thing that has ever happened to you during the Festival? I was hooked on the festival years ago with the "no where but here" collage of differing view points of Frameline filmmakers. In one sentence, what does Frameline mean to you? Frameline is an anchor of the LGBT community of San Francisco. If, for one day, you could meet / be / date one character from queer film history, who would it be and why? I have loved meeting brave LGBT filmmakers from other countries where they might be at risk for their work. If you could recommend one LGBT film to a queer youth, what would it be and why? I would recommend Tru Loved for LGBT youth to view because it’s a story about a high school girl who has LGBT parents.   During the story, it unfolds that her best friend is gay.  The support and love of the subjects comes across well on film. When you're not enjoying queer film, what else do you do? When I am not attending the Film Festival, I am the Board President of Theater Rhino, attending the Symphony, exploring the restaurants of SF and attending The Shakespeare Festivals.
